Sheryn Regis Comes In Out Of The Rain
By Clara Enriquez
When it rains, it pours. Without a doubt, things have been looking up lately for Star In A Million first season runner-up Sheryn Regis.
Only recently, the petite singer from the Philippine southern province of Cebu had been handpicked by successful songwriter Vehnee Saturno to represent the Philippines at the Voice of Asia international singing contest in Kazakhstan in August. Her first single, "Come In Out Of The Rain," from her newly released eponymous album under Star Records, also turned out to be a huge hit both on the air and in the market. Saturno, incidentally, is one of several illustrious composers who provided materials for Sheryn's debut record.
No matter if she failed to bag the Star In A Million title, Sheryn has come a long way since she started to join countless singing tilts at eight and do lounge acts at 18 to help her parents make ends meet. Qualities like discipline, perseverance, humility, and patience, she says, helped her get ahead in pursuit of her dream of hitting the big time.
This schoolteacher by profession is thus making hay, pushing her record by way of mall and provincial tours covering Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Iloilo, and her native Cebu. Sheryn is determined to focus "on singing first this year," even as she maintains that teaching will always remain a fallback.
"With patience and perseverance," Sheryn counsels others like her who dream of waxing an album one day, there is "no hindrance to shine."
