Jane's Addiction Plans Summer Release

While Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell once proclaimed that nothing's shocking, even his longtime fans will probably be more than a bit surprised that Jane's finally have a projected release date for their first studio album since 1990'sRitual de lo Habitual.
The LP, titledHypersonic, will come out by the end of the summer, according to the band's management. The disc is being recorded at Henson Recording studios in Los Angeles, and produced by Bob Ezrin, who has previously worked with Pink Floyd, Kiss, Lou Reed and others.
"Bob has a unique and most welcomed perspective in terms of getting the very best out of us as creators and players,"guitarist Dave Navarro wrote on the band's official Web site."I think that the combined energies of Bob, [co-producer] Brian [Virtue] and all of us in Jane's Addiction has made this time in the band's career the most comfortable and enjoyable it has ever been. We have never been happier, freer and more unified."
Jane's entered the recording studio in March and have completed around 20 songs for the album. They're currently mixing the completed tracks, then they'll pare down the material to an album's worth of songs. Leftover cuts may surface on future soundtracks or compilations.
The Jane's Addiction lineup consists of original members Farrell, Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins. In August they were joined by new bassist Chris Chaney, who replaced Martyn Le Noble (the Porno For Pyros bassist who filled the void when original member Eric Avery departed). Chaney has previously played with Rob Zombie, Alanis Morissette and Andrew W.K.
"Chris has definitely stepped up to the plate and has been a key factor in helping us expand our creative vision and enthusiasm,"Navarro wrote.
The band will play two U.S. shows before the end of the year -- December 28 in Denver and New Year's Eve in Los Angeles. In January the band will embark on the Big Day Out tour in New Zealand and Australia before launching a full world tour later in the year.
