Daft Punk Top 2001 Poll

By WENN

Dance music band Daft Punk have beaten Radiohead and Basement Jaxx to the title of best album of 2001 in a year-end poll of polls.

The influential group's second album,"Discovery,"came first in a list compiled from album of the year round-ups in British publications including New Musical Express, Q, and Uncut.

The French duo -- who dress as robots to avoid having their photos taken -- have been acclaimed for their retro dance sound.

Although"Discovery"failed to head any individual year-end review, it was highly rated often enough to top the overall chart.

Australian band The Avalanches came second with their acclaimed"Since I Left You"album, with another dance combo, Basement Jaxx, in third.

But the best-selling album of the year, Dido's"No Angel,"did not make it onto the list.

The full Top 10, compiled by music chain HMV, is:

1. Daft Punk -"Discovery"
2. The Avalanches -"Since I Left You"
3. Basement Jaxx -"Rooty"
4. Radiohead -"Amnesiac"
5. Royksopp -"Melody AM"
