Extra Security At Glastonbury 2002

By DL (MTV.co.uk)

Glastonbury Festival main man, Michael Eavis, has said in an interview that jumping the fence or tunneling under it, at next year's Glasters will be near impossible.Eavis, having been given one more chance by authorities to meet with maximum-capacity and security rules at Glastonbury 2002, has invested £1million on a"purpose-built high-tech super-fence"which he says will prevent people from sneaking in."It's mechanically much more substantial."Said Eavis of his new fence,"It's not much higher actually, it's only 12 feet but it's got an over-hang on it going out towards the outside so it's much more difficult to bunk over it."And for those thinking about tunneling under it,"There's a metal bit on the outside so you can't tunnel underneath it."Eavis has also spent a further £500,000 on security to keep an eye on things in and around the festival."There's a wide road on the outside so that we can drive round and round in Land Rovers and patrol it properly."He explained. The Glastonbury organisers have also taken out a full-page advert in next month's Q Magazine explaining why overcrowding at festivals can be so dangerous; an issue thrust into the spotlight as a result of the tragic deaths at last year's Roskilde festival.Watch this space for more details of Glastonbury 2002.
