One of Singapore's very own, best-loved indie punk-rock band has finally resurfaced. Plainsunset has had a long twelve-year love affair with music, resulting in three studio albums and stores of fans continually fluorishing both here and abroad.
Responsible for bringing us some of the most catchy and sing-along anthems, Jonathan Chan (vocals and guitars) ,Norsham Husaini (guitars and backing vocals), Nizam Sukri (bass) and Ronny Laily (drums) have certainly been through a rough ride, and come out triumphant.
Disbanding in 2004 to pursue other interests, Plainsunset reunited two years later at the Esplanade's Baybeats 2006, Singapore's Biggest Indie-Alternative Music Festival, playing to a highest ever attendance of 8,500 screaming fans. If that is not testament to their staying power and popularity, what is?
With their fourth self-titled album now out in stores, Plainsunset seems set for bigger things. This fourth album is the band's most accessible and likeable music to date. From start to finish, the album is infused with plaintive vocals and heartfelt lyrics that are stirring and melodious.
That's not all. Five tracks from their album have even been featured in Star World's HEROES Season 2 promotional campaign aired earlier this year. It is perhaps apt then, to see Plainsunset as one of the unsung heroes of local talent too.
