Having dropped out of the Chicago State University to pursue a career in music, Kanye West first left his mark as a hit-making producer for the likes of Jay-Z (2001's The Blueprint), Alicia Keys and Janet Jackson.
His debut album, The College Dropout (2002), was released to critical acclaim, going triple platinum, and the world sat up and took further notice of one Kanye West. Meanwhile, the super-producer went on to work his magic on smash singles like "Overnight Celebrity" by Twista, and "I Changed My Mind" by Keyshia Cole.
In 2005, Kanye launched his second album, Late Registration, which spawned immediate club smashes like the rocking "Gold Digger" featuring Jamie Foxx, and earned an astounding eight Grammy nominations including Album of the Year, and Record of the Year for said song.
The outspoken rapper gave us Graduation last year, and won us over with yet another chart-stomping single called "Stronger," its synth-based beats making it a constant feature on the club circuit.
Having wowed the world all over with his Glow In The Dark Tour, Kanye West has since been making waves with his latest release, 808s and Heartbreak, an album that has broken new ground, as he sings more than rap, with the aid of Auto-tune. Despite some controversy, the album was more-than well-received, hitting the #1 spot yet again, both the album and the immensely irresistable first single, "Love Lockdown."
Looks like The College Dropout can still go places after all.
