Singapore's most stylish and prevalent band, Electrico, plays captivating, guitar-based rock n roll. Originally known as Electric Company and formed in 1996, the band comprised David Tan (vocals, guitar), Desmond Goh (bass) and William Lim, Jr (drums, backing vocals). Four years later in 2003, the band and its music evolved to include two new talents, Daniel Sassoon (guitar) and Amanda Ling (keyboard). In 2008, Electrico are down to the foursome: David, Desmond, William and Amanda.
Electrico released their debut album So Much More Inside in August 2004 under Universal Music in Singapore, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia. The album was the result of an intensive 9-month recording session at Snakeweed Studios, owned by Singapore's most respected and brilliant producer Leonard Soosay. The album was also peppered with legendary mastering guru Stephen Marcussen's artistic touch. So Much More Inside achieved cult success following the release of their first single, "I Want You" and shot to the No. 1 spot on local radio. With subsequent singles "Runaway" and "Good Time" attaining substantial radio and MTV airplay, Electrico acquired significant popularity and was credited with reviving the local music scene.
The band spent the next few years touring and offering Singapore, Thailand and Australia a taste of their dynamic live performances. Often sharing the stage with renown international acts like The Bravery, Beastie Boys, Ashlee Simpson and many more, it is no wonder that Electrico has been consistently nominated and won countless media accolades.
In June 2006, Electrico released their second album Hip City which retained the best elements of the band's first album while reflecting Singapore's music scene. The new album was an indication of their development as artistes, and had a grittier, edgier and more urgent sound to it. Hip City proved to be a popular hit, staying on HMV Singapore's Top 10 sales chart for weeks. The aptly titled first single, synth-rock "Love In New Wave" was remixed by resident Zouk DJ Aldrin Quek and dance producer Akien, and also became a hit dance anthem advocated by British DJ Pete Tong.
In December 2006, Electrico was invited and performed at the main stage in Malaysia's "Rock The World VII" music festival. Shortly after, in March 2007, Electrico was invited to the South By Southwest (SXSW) music festival and performed several shows in California and Texas. In August 2007, "Love In New Wave" achieved the No 1 spot on Nu107fm, a popular Philippines radio station. Electrico is truly the epitome of sexy, passionate and exceptional pop-rock music while reflecting Singapore in the best possible way.
Electrico has certainly come a long way with their music over the past six years. Right now, they may be one member down, but that hasn't stopped them from churning out another highly-anticipated album.
Their third studio effort, entitled, We Satellites, will be out on July 8, so be sure to grab your copy from all good record stores!
